Apple has announced the fix for the SMS Security Vulnerability, it’s a new firmware, version 3.0.1.

So, we are going to redo the steps you did when you upgrade to firmwares 3.0

Firstly, please make sure you have following files ready:

0) iTunes 8.2.1 (yes, Apple has new version of iTune recently.)

1.1) for iPhone 2G Firmware 3.0.1 – Click here to download
or download using iTune. (Warning! Big File 230MB.)

1.2) for iPhone 3G Firmware 3.0.1 – Click here to download
or download using iTune. (Warning! Big File 230MB.)

1.4) for iPhone 3G, Firmware 3.0 for 3G (please refer to previous post for link)

2) RedSn0w version 0.8 Jailbreak tool – Click here to download

3) Wireless Access for you to get UltraSn0w (if you don’t have wireless, there is another way. I’ll try post soon.)

OK! Now you should have all the requirements ready. Let’s do it!

1) Connect your iPhone 3G into your computer.

2) Launch iTunes 8.2.1, make sure you backup your iPhone before continue next step (right click iPhone Name on the left menu and choose “Backup”).

3) iTunes will tell you there is a new version available, ask you whether you want to Update or Restore. If you haven’t download the ipsw, you may download now.

4) For those who download the ipsw yourself, Press Shift Key + Update button.
For those who download the ipsw using iTunes, just press Update button, and skip step 5.</p?

5) You will get a dialog box which ask you to browse to the ipsw file (the firmware 3.0.1 file) you downloaded just now.

6) iTune is now start to update you iPhone with the 3.0.1 firmware, this takes ~10mins.

7) Once it done, you will get the “Connect to iTune” screen on the iphone, just like you get your iPhone on the first day.

Now, with the cable connected, launch redsn0w.exe (unzip the downloaded redsn0w zip file and you will see this file. Please ignore the version on the redsn0w screen, I just re-use old image cox lazy to re-capture, they are visually the same except different version displayed on top).

9) Browse to the Firmware 3.0 ipsw file you downloaded last time. (Yes, 3.0 ipsw, not typing mistake! Why? Because redsn0w doesn’t work for 3.0.1 yet, but point to 3.0 it works.)

10) redsn0w will ask you to turn off your iPhone before begin Jailbreak, do it by press the power button and slide to power off it.

11) Get ready for the next steps (get ready means place your finger on the power button and home button location before continue.):

a – click Next button
b – press Power button for 2 sec
c – DO NOT release Power button, + press Home button for 10 sec
d – release Power button but NOT release Home button, continue 30 sec
e – Once you iPhone rebooted and start jailbreaking, you can release the Home button.

12) The jailbreak will take ~10 mins.

The running pineapple …

still running …..

The first jailbreaking application tool called purplera1n for the iPhone 3GS is now available. It will only allow the installation of unofficial third-party applications, but will not unlock the iPhone 3GS.

Check out http://purplera1n.com/ now!

George Hotz, a longtime Apple hacker, has released for the general public a tool that enables Windows users (not version 7) to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS, and older models running the 3.0 software update. The tool does not perform a carrier unlock, which would allow users to use sim cards from other wireless providers than the one they bought the device from.

However, the purplera1n jailbreak will free your iPhone from the limitations imposed on it by AT&T and Apple. After jailbreaking, a user will be able to customize the iPhone with home-screen wallpapers and third-party ringtones. But the biggest advantage of jailbreaking is the support of unapproved apps such as iBlackList (blacklists and whitelists for contacts) and many others.

But Hotz is not the usual suspect when it comes to releasing jailbreaking tools for the iPhone. By now, the iPhone Dev Team have been steadily releasing jailbreaking tools for the public. But the team has hesitated to release one for the iPhone 3GS because of the imminent release of the iPhone 3.1 software update (which would break any hacks the team has achieved).

Hotz expressed his disappointment with the iPhone Dev Team’s delay in launching a jailbreaking tool for the public on his blog, where he notes “That isn’t how the game is played. We release, Apple fixes, we find new holes. It isn’t worth waiting because you might have the “last” hole in the iPhone. What last hole… this isn’t golf. I’ll find a new one next week.”

Finally! You can Jailbreak your iPhone on OS 3.0 Using RedSn0w (Windows)!

What is RedSn0w?
redsn0w is an easy to use, multi-platform, multi-device jailbreaking and unlocking (iPhone 2G only) tool for the iPhone 2G (original iPhone), the iPhone 3G (but not the 3GS) and also the iPod touch (first and second generation). Currently it is available for Windows and Mac OS X (there are some issues using redsn0w with OS X PPC, please use an Intel Mac until we have this problem resolved).

REDSN0W PROVIDES SIMILAR FUNCTIONALITY TO QUICKPWN.
1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use redsn0w right now. Ultrasn0w (the 3G carrier unlock) is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be released via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 carrier unlock works with this redsn0w release.
2. Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you will be able to get it via Cydia or Icy).
3. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
4. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
5. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the latest version of redsn0w.
6. This app is suitable for the recent 3.0 release
7. redsn0w will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
8. redsn0w WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch, iPod touch 2G and the iPhone 3G (not the iPhone 3GS).

I was getting an email from one of the reader few days back regarding his iPhone problem which SpringBoard always crash while playing games. I would suggest you try SwapMode, an application from Cydia(jailbreak your iPhone if you wanna try this).

Basically SwapMode will allow you to switch between normal and game mode. Game Mode will turn off background services and SpringBoard Extensions such as SBSettings, iHome, etc. Your device will behaves as if it is freshly jailbroken with no app and extension installed, thus reducing the chances of system crash during game play. Normal Mode: Revert device to normal operation. Re-boot if necessary should it experience any abnormality.

Go to your iPhone Cydia and search for Swapmode and install.

Version: 1.1
Author: niufenfen
Section: Utilities

Identifier: net.ispazio.SwapMode
Maintainer: iSpazio.net
Homepage: http://www.installerepo.com/ispazio/SwapMode
File Name: .//deb/SwapMode1.1.deb
Size: 310560 bytes
Architecture: iphoneos-arm

You can use any kind of utility tools for measure your iPhone memory and you should see a significant change.

Hope this can help.

With Swapmode, you can enjoy your iPhone game without crash now!

This is an unofficial release and it’s not created by the iPhone Dev Team.

I know there are iPhone developers out there who want to upgrade to iPhone 3.0, iPod Touch 3.0, or iPhone 3G 3.0, but also want to keep their jailbreak. The Russian hacker Vortex has once again released an unofficial jailbreak at iPhoneApps.ru. I tried it on my iPod Touch with firmware 3.0 beta 2 and it works! You can only jailbreak on the iPhone 3.0 Beta 2, iPhone 3G 3.0 beta 2, and iPod Touch 1st Gen beta 3.0. It’s 3.2 MB only because it install’s RiPDev’s Icy program. Once you’ve jailbroken you need to open Icy, refresh all the sources and install OpenSSH to jailbreak. If you need any help please join the iPhone OS 3.0 forums and ask for help there.

Let us know if you make it work and please share your experience.

Note: This is BETA software, and some jailbroken apps may not work. Continue discussion in the iPhone OS 3.0 forum.
Remember, somebody drew this picture, they didn’t have to use these specific icons or this theme to illustrate Springboard variations.

As all of us know that, there are no “Official unlock” iPhone in Malaysia from any of our Mobile Service Provider until Mid of March 2009 (Maxis come out plan for iPhone 3G by mid of March 2009, you can get it with Holy High price).

For those who get their iPhone 2G or 3G from whatever way and use them in Malaysia, normally is Jailbreak set.

What do we mean Jailbreak? iPhone, by default, is locked to one of the Mobile Service Provider, like AT&T. You can only use AT&T simcard and service if you go through the “normal” way. It will NOT work on Maxis, Digi, or Celcom.

So, how do we enable an iPhone in Malaysia and use with our Local Mobile Service Provider? We jailbreak and unlock the iPhone.

Before you continue, please read this carefully! One step wrong will brick your iPhone and make it no more usable! Do it at your OWN RISK!!!

In-order for you to continue from this point, is to Jailbreak it. There might be lots of ways out there which can do the Jailbreak, I am sharing ONE of it here. QuickPwn! Install the software and .NET Framework 1.x and 2.x into your computer before you proceed next steps (btw, the software need .NET Framework 1.x or 2.x, I am not sure, but it needs one of it to work. so Please install that as well, else you will get error when startup QuickPwn).

Run the software, connect your iPhone to your computer with the USB cable provided in the box, and following step by step as the software ask you to do. You will need the iPhone Firmware which match your iPhone, if you get youriPhone within these 2-3 months (23rd March 2009), then you might get Firmware 2.2 or 2.2.1. Download theFirmware in advance is a better way, else the download process will make you crazy for waiting since each of the ipswfile is about 250MB in size.

OK, now you get the Firmware, and you “open” it when QuickPwn asking for it, and QuickPwn give you a big green tick after a few second of checking, you are good to go for next step.

After iPhone restarted, you will see the lovely wallpaper with the “slideto unlock” slide bar, then you will see those sweet icons (sounds so… ). Don’t be too happy yet. You just done Jailbreak, BUT not yet unlock, means you may use your iPhone as iPod but not a phone yet. It still don’t know who the hell is Maxis, or Digi, or Celcom.

Now you need your home WiFi setup into iPhone so that it can go into internet and download the very famous unlocktool - yellowsn0w (Special thanks to DEV Team).

First, tab on Settings icon, then tab Wi-Fi. Tab on Other…, key in your WiFi SSID and choose the correct security method that suite your WiFi, then tab Join. You should see the wave simbol at the top left corner.

You need to launch your Cydia (look for the Cydia icon in iPhone and single Tab on it). The first time it will run a “Reorganizing” process and goes back to the “slide to unlock” screen. Go in and launch Cydia again. This time, it will ask “Who Are You?” just tab whatever you think you are (I am a Hacker! Hehehehe). Now, tab on the Search button on the right bottom. Type in “yellowsn0w” and search. Please note that the O in “snow” is actually zero.

Install the yellowsn0w. Reboot you iPhone (Press the Power button for 3-5 seconds, it will have a “slide to Power Off” screen comes out, slide to off it. Once it is off, put in your Maxis, or Digi, or Celcom simcard (if you don’t know how do put in the simcard, please refer to your iPhone user guide). Press the Power button until you see the screen on (3-5 seconds). After the white Apple logo, slide to unlock the phone, now wait for 3 – 5 minutes. You should be getting the ISP name showing on the left top of the iPhone. Now your iPhone is a life. Congratulation.

BTW, if after you done all these and you DO NOT get your simcard recognized after 5 – 10 minutes, most properly is because:

1) Your iPhone 3G is with Firmware 2.2.1 and Baseband 2.30.03, which yellowsn0w is not supported.

or

2) Your Simcard with simcard pin code, which yellowsn0w is not supported.

or

3) You done something wrong in the middle.

Double check your Firmware version and Baseband version by go into Settings, General, About. If it is really the (1)case, then sorry, as of the date 23rd March 2009, yellowsn0w is not having solution to unlock baseband 2.30.03 on iPhone 3G yet. All you can do, is either wait for yellowsn0w, or get a RebelSimcard/TurboSimcard/XSimcard or whatever addon simcard at LowYat Plaza’s handphone shops, which cost you some hundred bugs (Please note that these addon simcards DO has some problems, choose this and you need to take the risk).

If it is (2), then easy, remove the simcard pin code using your old phone and put back into iPhone and reboot it. It will be all right now.

If it is (3), then even easy, redo the whole process carefully this time and it will do the trick.

Thank you for your time to read on this.

So, how do we enable an iPhone <in Malaysia and use with our Local Mobile Service Provider? We jailbreak and unlock the iPhone.

Before you continue, please read this carefully! One step wrong will brick your iPhone and make it no more usable! Do it at your OWN RISK!!!

If you found yourself confuse with what I write here, please DO NOT continue to do the job yourself. Find someone who can know this, or better still, pay someone to do the job for you, so that you DO NOT brick (brick in iPhone term, means you corrupted the firmware and even baseband, and the phone is NO MORE bootable) your iPhone!!!

An iPhone, new open from the box, once power on, you will see the iTune connect screen, you have the slide bar, but it can only make emergency call. You connect the iPhone into computer with the USB cable, iTune (I assume you installed iTune in your computer before you connect the iPhone into it, you should do it that way.) will tell you unrecognized simcard and it is not supported.

In-order for you to continue from this point, is to Jailbreak it. There might be lots of ways out there which can do the Jailbreak, I am sharing ONE of it here. QuickPwn! Install the software and .NET Framework 1.x and 2.x into your computer before you proceed net steps (btw, the software need .NET Framework 1.x or 2.x, I am not sure, but it needs one of it to work. so Please install that as well, else you will get error when startup QuickPwn).

Run the software, connect your iPhone to your computer with the USB cable provided in the box, and following step by step as the software ask you to do. You will need the iPhone Firmware which match your iPhone, if you get your iPhone within these 2-3 months (23rd March 2009), then you might get Firmware 2.2 or 2.2.1. Download the Firmware in advance is a better way, else the download process will make you crazy for waiting since each of the ipsw file is about 250MB in size.

OK, now you get the Firmware, and you “open” it when QuickPwn asking for it, and QuickPwn give you a big green tick after a few second of checking, you are good to go for next step.

QuickPwn will ask you to press the HOME >button for 5 seconds, then press the Power button on top of the iPhone together (both together, don’t release the HOME button) for 10 seconds, then release the Power button BUT continue pressing the HOME button for 30 seconds (normally the next action in QuickPwn will start when it reached ~21 – 18 seconds), iPhone will start showing you a Harddisk image, you may then release the HOME button. It will reboot itself and startup with a running Pineapple image with progress bar after the Harddisk image. Just sit back and relax.

If it is really the (1) case, then sorry, as of the date 23rd March 2009, yellowsn0w is not having solution to unlock baseband 2.30.03 on iPhone 3G yet.
