Some of the Apple iPhone users in Australia have reported that their iPhones have become infected by a worm, which changes your iPhone wallpaper to a picture of 1980s pop singer and internet meme Rick Astley. The worm targets users who have jailbroken their phone but have not changed their default root login password.

1. Go to cydia and look for “MobileTerminal” and install the app, then reboot your iPhone.

2. Run MobileTerminal, This program will be on your SpringBoard are called “Terminal”.

3. Obtain Administrator Access, Run “su root” and provide the root password. The default password as provided by Apple is “alpine”.

4. Change the root Password

Run “passwd” and type in your new password twice. Please note that it will not be displayed on the terminal screen.

iPhone:~ root# passwd

5. Close MobileTerminal

iPhone OS 3.1 beta 2 released

Apple iPhone OS 3.1 beta 2 have been released.

Unless you have a developer account with Apple, don’t bother plugging your iPhone into iTunes — we promise you’re not going to have access to it — but devs can now get their grubby paws on beta 2 of iPhone OS 3.1. We’ll let you know if we see anything crazy, like usable Gmail, true background applications, or a notification UI that doesn’t make you want to throw the phone against a very hard surface at high velocity.

Update: Looks like Apple has closed the door on hacks that enable tethering in this release — at least for AT&T according to early reports.

Update 2: We’ve just been informed that beta 2 also introduces what appears to be a public API for manipulating live video. Devs are still testing the capabilities but it could open the door for augmented reality applications like Layar to come to the iPhone 3GS.

The first jailbreaking application tool called purplera1n for the iPhone 3GS is now available. It will only allow the installation of unofficial third-party applications, but will not unlock the iPhone 3GS.

George Hotz, a longtime Apple hacker, has released for the general public a tool that enables Windows users (not version 7) to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS, and older models running the 3.0 software update. The tool does not perform a carrier unlock, which would allow users to use sim cards from other wireless providers than the one they bought the device from.

However, the purplera1n jailbreak will free your iPhone from the limitations imposed on it by AT&T and Apple. After jailbreaking, a user will be able to customize the iPhone with home-screen wallpapers and third-party ringtones. But the biggest advantage of jailbreaking is the support of unapproved apps such as iBlackList (blacklists and whitelists for contacts) and many others.

But Hotz is not the usual suspect when it comes to releasing jailbreaking tools for the iPhone. By now, the iPhone Dev Team have been steadily releasing jailbreaking tools for the public. But the team has hesitated to release one for the iPhone 3GS because of the imminent release of the iPhone 3.1 software update (which would break any hacks the team has achieved).

Hotz expressed his disappointment with the iPhone Dev Team’s delay in launching a jailbreaking tool for the public on his blog, where he notes “That isn’t how the game is played. We release, Apple fixes, we find new holes. It isn’t worth waiting because you might have the “last” hole in the iPhone. What last hole… this isn’t golf. I’ll find a new one next week.”

How to Jailbreak + Unlock iPhone 3G 3.0 Firmware

It’s quite a while we are waiting for this. Now, with the launch of RedSn0w and UltraSn0w, we can jailbreak and unlock iPhone 3G which is on the official firmware 3.0 released by Apple by June 17th 2009.

Before you start any steps below, please get ready following things:

0) iTune 8.2
1) iPhone 3G Firmware 3.0 – Click here to download (Warning! Big File 230MB.)
2) RedSn0w Jailbreak tool – Click here to download
3) Wireless Access for you to get UltraSn0w (if you don’t have wireless, there is another way. I’ll try post soon.)

OK! Now you should have all the requirements ready. Let’s do it!

1) Connect your iPhone 3G into your computer.

2) Launch iTune 8.2, make sure you backup your iPhone before continue next step.

3) iTune will tell you there is a new version available, ask you whether you want to Update or Restore.

4) Press Shift Key + Restore button

5) You will get a dialog box which ask you to browse to the ipsw file (the firmware 3.0 file) you downloaded just now.

6) iTune is now start to restore you iPhone with the 3.0 firmware, this takes ~10mins.

7) Once it done, you will get the “Connect to iTune” screen on the iphone, just like you get your iPhone on the first day.

Now, with the cable connected, launch redsn0w.exe (unzip the downloaded file and you will see this file).

Browse the ipsw file

Done loading, select your installer.

9) redsn0w will ask you to turn off your iPhone before begin Jailbreak, do it by press the power button and slide to power off it.

10) Now, get ready for the next steps:
a – click Next button

b – press Power button for 2 sec
c – DO NOT release Power button, + press Home button for 10 sec
d – release Power button but NOT release Home button, continue 30 sec
e – Once you iPhone rebooted and start jailbreaking, you can release the Home button.

11) The jailbreak will take ~10 – 15 mins

12) OK! Now you iPhone is jailbreaked. You can “Slide to Unlock” now. Er. still without ISP Network

13) Now, go into Settings. then Wi-Fi.

14) Setup and Connect onto your Wireless Network.

15) Go to second page of your Apps list, run Cydia.

Run Cydia

Cydia will close for the first time initialize, start it again.

16) in Cydia, go into Manage. Press “Sources”.

17) Add repo “repo666.ultrasn0w.com”, please note the sn0w is Zero instead of Capital O.

Updating…

Still … I know, it take sometime.

18) in Cydia, go into Search.

19) type in “Ultra”, Ultrasn0w will be the only one listed.

20) download and install Ultrasn0w.

21) reboot your iPhone.

22) Once iPhone booted up, it will get connected.

23) Done!

24) Time to restore your data back into the iPhone.

About 2 hours ago, Dev-Team Blog teams have been announced that UltraSn0w for iPhone 3G is ready!

1. Ensure you have upgraded to iPhone OS 3.0
2. Jailbreak your iPhone 3G using redsn0w or PwnageTool (this will also install Cydia/Icy)
3. Run Cydia or Icy
4. Please add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com to Cydia or icy
5. Search for ‘ultrasn0w’ in cydia or icy and install ultrasn0w
6. Reboot your iPhone 3G
7. T-Mobile USA users should disable 3G before using ultrasn0w(I would suggest disable for all telco)
