Planning to get an Apple iPhone? 2G, 3G or 3GS? I’m sure you will get 3G. You should be able to order your iPhone 3GS Now! Yet this is NOT available in Malaysia!

According yo my sources, Maxis ordered more than 100 thousand iPhone 3G during to recent launch. So what do you think about an official iPhone 3G S will be available in Malaysia?

A number of MacRumors readers have reported that Apple and AT&T have begun updating order statuses and providing UPS tracking numbers for their iPhone 3G S orders. In the case of orders placed with Apple, shipments are being dispatched from Shenzhen, China and are due for delivery on Friday, the official launch date for the iPhone 3G S. Orders made through AT&T are appearing as “in progress” on customers’ order status pages and have been assigned tracking numbers, although the shipments do not appear to have yet been picked up by UPS.

Visible signs of AT&T’s and Apple’s preparations for the launch of the new iPhone, as well as the corresponding release of iPhone OS 3.0 for older devices this Wednesday, have begun appearing in the days leading up to the new releases. Over the weekend, AT&T also sold out of its initial iPhone 3G S pre-order allotment, meaning that those who wish to obtain an iPhone 3G S from AT&T on launch day will have to do so in-person at an AT&T retail store.

As mention in previous post:

“Maxis 3G/EDGE/GPRS Charge is Expensive!!!“

I found a way to disable the 3G or/and EDGE on your iPhone. You can enable it anytime you like if you need it.

Try out this application: BossPrefs (You may get it from Cydia for FREE.)

You can use this application to

- Disable/Enable 3G (Disable this to save you tons of money)

- Disable/Enable EDGE (Disable this to save you tons of money, since it charged the same rate as 3G)

- Disable/Enable WiFi (Any reason we need to do this? As far as I know, NO.)

- Disable/Enable Bluetooth (Good feature, why should I disable it?)

BossPrefs also has other useful features (tab on the More button on top) like:

-Fix User Dir Permissions (This will help to solve some application crash problem)

- Show Free Disk Space (To check your iPhone’s free space without go into iTune)

- Enable Numeric Battery (Show percentage of available battery instead of the green battry icon)

And, BossPrefs has shortcut to:

- Respring (restart the GUI of iPhone)

- Reboot

- Shutdown

Your iPhone (just tab on the Power Button on the bottom of the screen and you will get the menu).

I do feel this is a VERY useful tool. Let’s give it a try and see how good it is.

Thank you for reading.

My wife got her iPhone (Not Maxis Package) last month and she happily browse here browse there, get application downloads and surf facebook on it. And guess what? I got the Maxis bill now (her line under my subline), I saw a WOOPING RM264.34 charge for 27MB of Data transfer!!!

I have a talk with my wife and found out that she actually not connecting to 3G purposely, but the application at background will request for a connection from time to time (when a page opened in Safari; Mail accounts setup in iPhone and by default it will check your mailbox every 5mins?), or she mistakenly press some applications that will connect to internet and get update by itself (Weather, Stocks, Maps…).

For those who use iPhone 2G/3G and you are not taking 3G unlimited package or the Maxis iPhone package, please take my painful “experience”. Think twice before you activate your 3G connection to surf on your iPhone. Since Maxis 3G/EDGE/GPRS charge is DAMN EXPENSIVE!!!

There is way to stop the 3G/EDGE/GPRS connection to connect automatically when applications request. Please stay tune on my next post.

I am not sure this is a good news or bad news for all of us. AT&T will launch Contract-Free iPhone 3G into US market by tomorrow (26th March 2009).

Not quite sure whether you all know, the way we bring in iPhone from US.

For iPhone 2G 8GB last time, we can buy the phone direct from Apple with the cost of USD399, then with Tax at about 6-7%, and you are good to go with your iPhone. Whether you going to sign contract with AT&T or Jailbreak it, it’s non of the shoppers business.

But for iPhone 3G now, AT&T changed the way. First, you need to be US citizen to get the iPhone 3G with USD199. If you are not, you need to pay USD500 “deposit”. AND you need to sign the package with your credit card. The “plan” with AT&T is about USD60 per month. So, no matter you use the phone in US or not, you need to pay the USD60 every month for 24 months, from your credit card directly. So, this way doesn’y work for us. If you want to cancel the contract, you can pay an one off USD200 to cancel it (not sure is going through legal way or not). It is a HIGH price to get one of these, right?

Now, AT&T Launch Contract-Free iPhone 3G!

It will launch at USD599 for iPhone 3G 8GB, USD699 for iPhone 3G 16GB. Not as cheap as you think, but I think it is cheaper then you get one from US with the “Legal” way.

So, good news or bad news? You may think twice.

Thanks for reading.
