Maxis 3G/EDGE/GPRS Charge is Expensive!!!

Posted by Watson on Wednesday Apr 1, 2009 Under Tips

My wife got her iPhone (Not Maxis Package) last month and she happily browse here browse there, get application downloads and surf facebook on it. And guess what? I got the Maxis bill now (her line under my subline), I saw a WOOPING RM264.34 charge for 27MB of Data transfer!!!

maxisbill

I have a talk with my wife and found out that she actually not connecting to 3G purposely, but the application at background will request for a connection from time to time (when a page opened in Safari; Mail accounts setup in iPhone and by default it will check your mailbox every 5mins?), or she mistakenly press some applications that will connect to internet and get update by itself (Weather, Stocks, Maps…).

For those who use iPhone 2G/3G and you are not taking 3G unlimited package or the Maxis iPhone package, please take my painful “experience”. Think twice before you activate your 3G connection to surf on your iPhone.  Since Maxis 3G/EDGE/GPRS charge is DAMN EXPENSIVE!!!

There is way to stop the 3G/EDGE/GPRS connection to connect automatically when applications request. Please stay tune on my next post.

  3. Maxis Crap Says:

Dear IPHONE Users, personally I have been used iPhone for more than 6 months bought from oversea and WITHOUT any data plan with MAXIS. For the past 6 months, Maxis charged me small amount of data usage(3G & EDGE) except last month(3 digits amount). I called up Maxis customer support and ‘ding’ ‘dong’ for about a week. First Maxis told me have to request data report and it take about 3 working days. Fine! Someone called me after 2 days later and told me the data usage charges are valid. If I need a report, RM5 will be charge for courier service. I’m sure you won’t pay if you’re like me! Anyway end up it’s free after I make noise. Again, the interesting thing happen. They told me the data usage report only provide date, time & download size. WTF? She told me NO URL details will be provided. Maxis DO NOT have such systems? It’s JOKE? And she promised to check again. I called again but this time another girl picked up the and told me different story. She promised to request from another department again(yes different dept – customer service team DO NOT have the details). I can’t believed! End up she CAN’T give me the full report(I need the full URL). The Maxis customer services manager told me this details(URL) is for internal used only. The 3G/EDGE data charges is VALID and Apple iPhone design such a way which data come first then only voice. No matter how you turn off 3G or EDGE on Apple iPhone, the 3G/EDGE data connection still going out and you will not know any background or auto update services running behind. In order to make sure no DATA going out, you must TURN ON Airplane Mode while using any WIFI services. This is NOT make sense at all and seriously I can’t agreed on this! So the conclusion is you either sign up with Maxis unlimited data plan or you can switch to another Telco. Good luck!

  4. Azlan Says:

Regarding the edge/3g/gprs charge, i was once told by maxis operator, 1KB of using while surfing, download etc, will charge at RM0.01 @ 1 Sen. So judging by using the data at 27,000 byte, it is not suprise the charge will be at RM200++. Just wanna add info and please correct me if i’, wrong.

However i’m using Bill + data which required me to pay RM200 / month and i have no issue of this charge at all.

    Thanks!

  5. jared Says:

ya…i hope i read ur message early…i just dont realise my iphone use 3g and edges for the whole day…i think my bill will be very expensive…maxis damm expensive…

  6. tj Says:

you can download this app known as BossPref.
it has a function to disable edge on your phone so there will be no unncessary download of data without your knowing. you can turn it on when you want to download email, surf. hope this helps.

  7. Jas Says:

Hi TJ, It’s not true. You have to called up Maxis help desk and ask for that and the interesting is Maxis team will tell you iPhone design such a way which data go out first. Again no matter how you stop 3G or EDGE, you may still have change to get charges by any telco.

  8. TJ Says:

I am using it and it works fine. I haven’t been charged unnecssarily since the first months bill almost 2 yrs ago. Try it.

  9. gc Says:

Dear all, i need your advice.
Like Maxis Crap above, I was charged rm430++ for 43 mb of data being downloaded within 30 mins (I got a report from a Maxis centre, but similarly like above, I had no url report). The problem is, at the time of the alleged download, I was watching a movie at Sunway Pyramid (which has very bad reception in the hall). I have no apps in my phone, occasional GPS which will definitely not account for that amount even if it’s accidentally turned on, browser which i used to access mobile plurk (definitely not used that night).
What concerns me is that the Maxis rep told me that the usage is valid because it’s “logged at both ends of a server” (whatever that means). Seems like he is dead sure that I’m lying. If they do not provide me with a list of URLs like what happened to Maxis Crap, then it’s pretty much a dead end.

    1. What could have happened?
    2. What actions should I take next if they refuse to budge?
    3. Is it possible for me to achieve such a high speed on 3g (2MB within 30 secs) if I’m not on any data plan with maxis?

  10. ken koh Says:

This thread is very infomative. Saw it for the lst time. I’ve an iphone which i used on my Digi line for the last 12 mths. Last month, Digi started to charge me for GPRS. I protested the charges because I accessed the net through WIFI and had always disabled the 3G/E features on my iphone. I’ve not signed a data plan with Digi and therefore I don’t believe Digi has the right to bill me for GPRS. Digi refused to credit me back the GPRS charges, so I terminated my service and moved to Maxis. I also called up all my clients who are heavy users to cancel their Digi lines and moved with me to Maxis.

So far, I’ve not encountered any problems with Maxis. I do hope our authorities reviewed this issue. I especially want the authorities to put in a new rule that only customers who signed up for a data plan can be charged for data services. As more smart phones come to market, many unsuspecting customers are being nailed for services they didn’t want. For all the customers out there, review your monthly statements.

  11. CT Says:

I just called Maxis to disable all the Data Services for my main line and all my supplementary lines. So I can use the Iphone without any worry anymore…

  12. Jas Says:

Hi CT, I’m strongly agreed with you and this is the only way solution.

  13. Jayce Says:

    Hai,
Yes! Maxis 3G/EDGE/GPRS Charge is damn Expensive!!!
I have to spend my money RM150 every week coz of this…

  14. E Says:

Yes, damn expensive, my bill for gprs alone is RM7000+ . Just because of my stupid brother use it to watch movie online in a single night.
I suggest you guys turn off/deactivate 3G and GPRS by dialing *136*4#. or stop using phone to online.

  15. observer365 Says:

I did what E said…dial *136*4# and I received sms from Maxis saying my 3G had been successfully cancelled…however after 2 days i saw that my iphone had been sending 5kb and receiving 12 kb…what the hell is this?

  16. Xswoosh Says:

Hi all, although you have disabled your 3G, iphone will proceed to download data through the next available option, which is EDGE or even GPRS. The only way for you to force iphone not to download anything is to give it the incorrect 3G APN settings. The simplest way is to on your iPhone WIFI, goto http://www.unlockit.com.nz and install the Fake APN Certificate. You can uninstall it later at the Settings/General page. If you have apps like Mail/Weather or any 3rd party which uses data, it will auto connect to the 3G to update itself. Hope this helps. :)

  17. Jieb Says:

Walah.. Today my line got banned by maxis.. Unfortunately I’m surfing the website for whole night for more than 100++ ringgit for 12mb++.. Very2 expensive lor.. Now I’m deleted all the setting and no more GPRS or 3G..

  18. ASH Says:

  19. kk Says:

I am so happy to have found this forum. I subscribe to Maxis also and I’m using first gen iphone(2G) that I bought in US. My average monthly phone bill has always been below RM150 except if I travel overseas. My Feb/Mar gave me a real shocker where I was charged a few hundred on internet usage. I was charged for a couple of hundred again in the following months. I called up Maxis immediately in early March to enquire what was that all about. I also requested for the detailed statement of the internet usage. What puzzled me was that in the detailed statement, I was charged for a few seconds of internet usage hourly at the exact minutes and seconds for like 8-10 hours on almost everyday!! How strange is that?! It took Maxis many months to have finally someone who understood my problem and frustration to call me and explained the charges. I had a lengthy chat with them which I wasn’t entirely convinced. The net takeout of that conversation was that if I didn’t buy the iphone from Maxis thru its ivalue packages, I’ll be screwed!
Anyway, I just have my fair share of such painful experience. I told the guy at Maxis who was kind enough to give a follow-up to me to apologise for their mishandling of situation and we also settled the issue.

  20. Jieb Says:

I thinking wanna get back last quote from which guy said I’m the one whos nothing to used smartphone..

Halo bro Ash, Im not trying to blame you or others.. You got that bro???
I’m beleived broadband user only for rich like you and always yours be good as good to used internet phone.. Dont trying to bullshit anyone while you will got crab over it..fuxk!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. JJJ Says:

The maxis charged me RM300++ for last few months although i did not use any GPRS.
I went to maxis centre last month and requested them to disable GPRS. And yet, they charge me again for RM300+ this month… wtF!!!!! For a mobile user without online using GPRS and have disabled GPRS, how come RM300+ will appear in my bill??

  22. b Says:

hey all…iphone have that features regardless of what telco u use, it still chrge internet ppu…..i agreed with ASH, malaysian are not smart to use smart phone …keep blaming others…and summore in malaysia technology to burden people…so the solution is switch to celcom the internet is only rm38 monthly/ unlimited….

  23. john Says:

does EDGE will charge on bill?…how do i download game for free? im a new user!…

  24. Samantha Khu Says:

I received my maxis bill today and got a shock too. My data usage was RM339.99. The same case, which i “did not” connect it and thru hell the internet got connected. SAD.

  25. halms Says:

    hi

if you dont want any bill shock, please delete the apps you installed and all email accounts in your iphone. even when you open a simple brick game, it might uses data to send ‘statistics’ to apple or the developer. if you are not subscribed to the data plan, please do not get shocked if you bill go beyond you imagination. data is charged by the kilobytes.

apple designed the iphone to be an internet smartphone. that is why there is no option to switch off the internet. now with ios4, be careful of apps running in the background.

also, be wary of apps with ads. ads fetch data through the internet.

statistic data, ads, are all valid data. most free apps have ads in them. also, read the papers comes with your iphone. i forgot which one, but somewhere does states that iphone do transmit data to apple and app developers. even when you download an app, even if its free, you should the terms and condition.

btw, im not sure that you can disable internet access totally from your mobile service.

  26. Jas Says:

According to my conversation with Maxis supervisor, there is NO WAY to disable that because Apple iPhone design such a way to make it work by send data out which I believe this is the plan and marketing strategies. Unfortunately this is NO benefit to end user but very benefit to telco.

  27. halms Says:

the only way is to subscribe to higher data plan. digi is the cheapest with 5GB for the rm250 package. im on maxis since maxis is the only mobi-co reliable for me. well, other ppl have other lucks. just hoping maxis will upgrade their package when iphone 4 arrive.

my best fren tried an iphone. but hes using prepaid. he was screaming when the whole rm30 topup disappeared in less than a day. after talking to me, he went like ‘ooow…’

anyway, the best for iphone users is to suscribe to any data plans. it can lower your bills. unless you rather charged by kilobytes. just hoped you dont have heart attack! which one you prefer? additional rm300, or additional rm40-99? no jailbreaking can stop this.

  28. Ian Says:

PEOPLE. PLEASE READ THIS. YOU ARE DUMB IF YOU DO NOT READ THIS.
FIRSTLY, Maxis has provided data plans for all that use iphones. This greatly saves cost as it provides unlimited data coverage for a month at a certain price. Postpaid users can immediately sign up for this package and save a bomb.
Prepaid users can buy the mobile internet plan for RM 98 for 1.5g worth of data services. This is indeed a good bargain compared to all you people saying that you’ve spent more than 200+on phone bills.
Do the RIGHT thing. GET THE DAMN PLANS.

  29. Arif Says:

I’ve been a maxis customer for about 10 years(since college) and never switch my number..i’ve used hotlink prepaid for about 7 years and upgraded to post-paid,which i’ve been using for approx. 3 years ever since i have a job..never got a problem and pissed with the bill UNTIL JUST NOW.

Currently i’m using iphone 4 from maxis and took the iValue1,which is the minimum plan..previously i took the value80 plan coz i’m used a normal sony ericson phone which only uses line and GPRS, and constantly paid RM80-200 monthly..up to the date of previous monthly bill,i’ve paid my dues n actually on credit balance of a couple of RM.

Today,i got a NOTIFICATION said that i currently have RM800++ due charges up until today..some questions pops up in my head:

    1) how the hell did my bill reach to that figure?? i’ve never ever called an international no.

2)ok,maybe its not the call charges..maybe internet usage..i’ve done every single thing from disabling 3G,Internet Tethering, n Cellular Data everytime i did not want to use the 3G usage(1GB free for iValue1)..i regularly use wifi to download things(yes,a couple of youtube clips, but i never downloaded movies, which i’m pretty sure the usage doesn’t reach the RM800+ usage.

3)ok,maybe its the charges of both..not that i can’t pay BUT WHAT REALLY PISSED ME OF IS THAT I TRIPLE CHECKED MY ACCOUNT ONLINE N IT SHOWED THAT I HAVE A CREDIT LIMIT OF RM450,which they should’ve block from continuing usage or at least a REMINDER that i have reached the credit limit??that’s what’s really bugging me n i’m so pissed off to work right now..if have that reminder, maybe i could control or figure out sooner on how to reduce the charges..freakin thief

  30. gc Says:

Hi Arif, I’m not sure if things are different because you are on iValue plan but based on my past experience, I remember that Maxis has a maximum cap of RM250 for data usage; they would not charge for data usage more than RM250. Therefore, you shouldn’t have hit RM800 on data alone. Even if you were charged RM250 for data, you would have to make about RM550 of calls. Your case is definitely suspicious. You should pursue this matter!

  31. halms Says:

i got in the same situation once. gc is right. just call maxis and ask the c.s about your bill.

anyway, the data plans are just options for customers. for someone who really ‘use’ an iphone, you should be getting the unlimited idata plan. its gives you less headache.

else, just jailbreak your iphone and disable the internet totally if you dont want to use it.

also, if you in wifi, sometimes the wifi is down without you knowing. but there is no notification in the iphone, and it will use your mobile data without you realizing. you can only notice the icon change on top of the screen.

  32. Arif Says:

Hi gc and halms..to clear a bit of the confusion, the amount rm800++ are my unbilled amount..they only billed the amount after the 15th of every month..so the billed amount(amount to be paid) is actually rm356.45,after rebate..the most charges is of course the data charges(data used was 756,000++KB),whereas my phone bill was rm25.00++..(NOTE THAT MY 3G, CELLULAR DATA WAS OFF WHEN I’M CONNECTED TO THE WIFI)

Like i said b4,i actually pissed coz they didn’t remind me of the credit limit of rm450.. i know they will use the lame excuse, which is they only send reminders only when the amount AFTER billed has exceed the credit limit.

So,i have a theory, still being tested, on how to minimize the costs of my maxis bill(things that i didn’t do regularly b4)

    a) decrease my credit limit to rm200(already did, this way i can figure out how to reduce the charges,n without having a heart attack when i receive their notification.

    b) if i want to use wifi,i’ll turn on the airplane mode(turn off my carrier) and connect to the wifi..this way, they DEFINITELY CAN’T charge me for unexpected 3g usage.

    c) turn off all notification, all ‘push’ related stuff, locations service(ESPECIALLY)..i’ll turn on the location service only when i use the GPS Maps.

    d) always check regularly the *100# service to see my unbilled amount..just to make sure they didn’t charge me RIDICULOUS charges.

    e) when turning on 3G and Cellular Data, never download things..just use it to check emails,fb and any social accounts.

As to date,i use wifi and download various clips n files everyday at my office using the methods above..so far,my unbilled charges is at rm11.80..so far so good i guess..i will post the results of my theory after the next bill comes out :)

p.s my iphone 4 is jailbroken with limera1n n yes,i have SpringBoard n all the essential Cydia apps for a jailbroken device

  33. gc Says:

I think its established by now that the bill is probably related to some hanky panky in your iPhone 4 so the things you do can limit your damages. Ultimately, I would recommend that you do a factory reset on your phone and and do step (d) above. Start adding apps from there to hunt the possible rogue app that’s 3G-ing you.

  34. Arif Says:

I think there’s no such thing as “service provider will always charge u when u have an iphone@smartphone,even u never know its sending data”..the smartphone generally do this MAINLY coz most of smartphone users DIDN’T TURN OFF ALL functions/tabs that are related to 3G@GPRS@DATA on the phone itself.

After my ‘incident’ last month,i realized something..yes,i did turn off the 3G/Cellular Data/Wifi BUT i didn’t turn off the Push Data thingies(a number of apps has them e.g mail/facebook) and ESPECIALLY ‘location services’ in the settings..that’s the way maxis/digi charge us.

I’ve turn off the things I said above ever since i got my shocking bill on 15/10/10.. i track my unbilled amount everyday using *100# service by maxis..until today 22/10/10,my total unbilled amount was only rm15.83..basically,they only charged me only at the average of rm1.00-rm2.00 per day(mostly bcoz of making calls n SMSs)..n trust me,i’ve been downloading like crazy even as i type this comment, could be already 1GB of space that i’ve downloaded in 8 days(USE THE METHOD I’VE POSTED PREVIOUSLY)..the method maybe a hassle, but for me that’s the best way if u want to use wifi.

Hope this info will help my fellow smartphone users so that we can stop giving money to maxis/digi for something we didn’t know our phones sent.

p.s to Jas – the maxis supervisor didn’t even know how the smarphone works, or
the maxis supervisor knew about it BUT didn’t want to tell u.

Forgot to mention,to use the method above,u don’t have to jailbreak your phones. It’s all in your phones,u just have to explore n search for it.

  35. halms Says:

ive just noticed something in ios 4.1, that you can disable the cellular data. i.e the internet usage. go to settings > general > network > cellular data > OFF. NO JAILBREAKING REQUIRED!

i dont think this function exist in ios 3.

when you want to use the net, just turn it ON again. make sure you dont forget to turn it OFF later.

  36. Ben Says:

My dear friends of this forum, all the mobile operators in Malaysia are big time thieves, they all want your money and nothing else, be smart and use your phones wisely.

  37. Arif Says:

Hi y’all..just wanna share something..i finally figured out how maxis calculate my data usage on the previous month.

Basically, maxis normal rate for data usage is RM0.005/1kb exactly..for the purpose of understanding,i’ll give u my previous bill’s REAL FIGURE.

Data Usage on my bill = 798,840KB(shown) @ RM 3,994.20(shown)
    Rebate for iValue1(1GB free) = 664,098KB(not shown) @ RM-3,320.49(shown)
Sub total for data usage = 134,742KB(not shown) @ RM 673.71(shown)

There’s actually another rebate for Data Usage(max charge@RM250/month) with the amount of RM421.88..i seriously don’t know how they calculated this one..long story short, after debit(usage) and credit(rebates),the amount that i’ve to pay is RM360.67.

Notice why they didn’t write off all my data usage? given that i’m in iValue1 where i got 1GB free data usage..i was confused for a moment, then i called maxis 123 CS..they explained that the actual free data usage is only 664,098KB@ 19-20 days@ RM 3,320.49(as stated above).. the days are counted from the date i activated the iValue1 @ 26/9/10..the full 1GB free data usage will be applicable on this month statement..so,i’m satisfied with their explanation and paid my dues..although,they should’ve told me earlier..anyways,i’ve learned from the experience and be extra careful from today onwards.

p.s -Until today 25/10/10,my unbilled amount is RM 17.14..i love my iphone 4 :)
-To all smartphone users, get to know your phones..explore their true potentials.. find out how to push the right ‘button’..that way,u can use your phones without fear :)

  38. Terence Says:

Dear all, I purchased the HTC Touch Diamond 2 years ago and to enable my maxis line to 3G, and then when I saw the monthly bill, i was so unbelievable and almost faint. I understand the data charge is expensive, but i clearly remember I seldom use my phone to surf net, so i immediately call to the maxis service center and start make noise on them, same bullshit the operator told me, they cannot provide me the details etc and have to charge me RM5 for the investigation & need to take for 10 working days…wtf. So i say, I dont mind to pay the RM5 & wait, but I want the full details (date, time & URL i surf). In the end, they told me the bullshit again that they only able to trace the date & time but I didn’t surf any web at all on that particular date/time, moreover they can’t provide the URL I requested earlier as an evidence. After several conversation & complaint, they finally agree to wave it from my bill. But later on, i noticed my phone occasionally will auto connect to 3G or HSPDA to download something, to avoid similar case happend, I called to Maxis to ask them disable any data connection service. Ends up my smartphone like a dump phone, only can call & receive call & use WiFi if only need to connect to the internet.

  39. bujang Says:

i just want to share with u all that after i get the mini wireless router, i don’t need the 3g package. for your info i just pay only rm48 only permonth of using the wireless. may be i terminate my ivalue plan dan get the i data one (only rm30 permonth).Anything pls facetime with me at 012-8930011.

  40. gc Says:

terence: what a sad story! did you try to factory reset your phone?
bujang: you mean you’re using a mifi device?

  41. Terence Says:

gc: did already, no use as those programs will auto run at the background (to grab/update the info from the internet) without your notice. So the only solution is to terminate the 3G & GPRS service from the telco

  42. gc Says:

wah really bad like that. did you update to the latest firmware?

  43. Terence Says:

yup, already flashed to the latest firmware but still no use.

  44. Random Says:

Terence, how much was your bill for your htc diamond ?

  45. Andy Says:

Terence, how much exactly were u billed?

  46. Terence Says:

My bill was 200+, usually my monthly bill wont cross 50 as i seldom use my phone

  47. Man Says:

    Guys,
My case is pretty much similar with u guys but in a larger scale – My bill for this month ( first month for using iPhone 4- iValue plan 2) is RM3000++. Yes 3000++. This is beyond crazy – it is ridiculous!
This problem starts when I used WiFi at McD few weeks back. I surf some websites and downloaded some apps (I’ve jailbroken my iPhone). I’ve checked my internet usage prior to use that WiFi and it showed I have used less than 1G. The next day I checked and to my surprise my internet usage was 4.1G for sent and 4.9G for received. I was like…wtf? So I called maxis centre and they gave me that same bullshit that they give to you guys and blaming that social network blah blah blah. And I was like “ There is no way facebook and apps can use 4G of data overnight!”
So he asked me to wait until the bill came out(which on Nov 17). So I said ok since my bill still showed 100++ – I thoguht maybe the iPhone counts the data from WiFi as well (eventho it doesn’t make any sense the data from 900++MB can go to 4.9G overnight just by watching youtube, download few ups and surf some websites).
But today. My phone got blocked and when I dialed *100# it showed my bill was RM3090.73! What the heck? I know I might get rebate and all since I don’t think my call cost me RM3000 so it might be from data usage and the max they can charge me for data is RM 250. But heck. I always check my data usage and bill from time to time so I won’t exceed the limit and suddenly this things happen. Think I might need to pay about RM 500 this month! I’m so piss off!
I’m still waiting my bill to come out and cant wait to see how is it possible this things happen.

  48. Andy Says:

Well, my bill was 1k+…my dad was pissed, and so was I.

  49. Terence Says:

    Wow!!! 1k+??what the…
For me i already fainted & probably blowing white bubbles from my mouth….
    Unbelievable…
    Pity u my friend

  50. Alexis Says:

I encountered that too! I switched on my iphone games, and it directly goes into 3G network and I don’t know how to off it. It ran off for more than 30 mins ! Then they charged me about RM38!!!
I have sent a complaint email to http://www.nccc.org.my to complain about that.

I’ve just received my bill and was shocked as I did not expect it to be high due to data charges. Anyhow, after reading all the comments and suggestions above, at least I know I’m not alone in this matter. I’ll try disable the 3g and mobile data setting and see how it goes.

  58. Nickii Says:

hi..i’m feel so glad that i found this web all discuss about maxis and using iphone…i’m new user of maxis and i’m using ivalue 2 which need to pay RM155 per month..and for this ivalue 2 is free 2gb for my iphone 4…but then after i read all the comments above, i feel scared right now…my cellular network data for sent is 67.6mb and received is 2.0gb…so i’m wondering how much for my this(1st) month bill cost?? is there anyone can figure it out for me or give me some advice??

  59. Nickii Says:

    p/s: The iphone 4 i’ve been jailbroken d…

  60. Man Says:

    Nikki,
I’m not trying to scare u here and hate to be the one who gives u this bad news bad well i think I need to tell u this so u know what to expect.
Eventho u subcribe for 2GB. But for the first month, the data will be charged in pro-rate basis. Means, let say ur account will be closed on 17/05 and u subcribe the plan on 01/05. So u only have 16 days. So lets do the math:
    30 days = 2 GB
    16 days = 1.06 GB
So after 1.06GB, Maxis will charge u RM0.05/10kB and maximum RM250.

In yr case, u clearly has exceeded yr quota,( 2GB+67.6MB). I guess yr bill will be RM250 (max charge) + RM 155 + other bills = RM 400++. But they will deduct yr advance payment for the first 5 months subject that they still haven’t blocked yr line.

Btw, whether u have jailbroken the iphone4 or not, it wont affect the bills (as far as I concern). Your warranty just void. You cannot claim the warranty if anything happen to yr iPhone 4.

  61. Nickii Says:

Man, thanks for information…but i just called to maxis and the coordinator told me that my data no over and my for my total biil this month is RM178 then after deduct my advance payment is just RM138….but i haven received my bill yet lah…but i ask the coordinator very clearly how much i have to pay for the total…is just RM138…

  62. Man Says:

    Nickii,
    Good to know that.
Maybe Maxis has improved their system – previosuly, they couldn’t track the usage of yr data/internet usage until you get the bill.
On the other hand, I think the reason why the data shows u have exceeded the quota is because u used WiFi, true? If true, then u shouldn’t be worried.
Last but not least, iPhone’s data counter not really accurate. If it shows u have used the date around 1.6-1.7GB ( not using WiFi) – u better start to watch ur usage.

  63. iZat zacky Says:

Wah, I was wondering when will maxis lower the rate of their 3G… Very expensive, it is no use to have a great smartphone ( for browse web for instance ) when u cannot njoy much of it…

  64. fatisya Says:

yeah maxis mobile internet is damn expensive.wonder when r they goin 2 lower the rate.i dont put my maxis sim card on iphone evrtime i go back 2 malaysia.my credit will b drained out..1.2gig for RM88 is not worth it…as compared to india in which im stdying now it is Rs94(about RM7) for 4gig per month..n super fast

  65. JV Says:

By right, the telcos should limit the GPRS charges as many users didnt know about this. So far as i know, maxis gprs max capped = rm250 and digi = rm240. before purchasing smartphones ( *iphone), you should know how it works. the salesperson, of course he/she didnt want to or may be they dont even know the smartphones use internet a lot.they only know how to sell. and then, after you’ve been charged like hundreds ringgit because of data connection you dont even know you’re blaming the telcos. OK. People, any number/telco that you’re using, try to put it in the same smartphone, try w digi or maxis or celcom SEE whats gonna happened. the same thing. im not saying that you dont what IT is but first, you should know moreee, exploreee about the phone before purchasing it.
who’s producing the smartphone – that allows data connection w/o your concern? is it your mxs/digi/celcom? ASK APPLE, HTC, SAMSUNG, etc. WHY DO THEY CREATE THOSE SO-CALLED SMARTPHONES?
    have a good day peeps.

  66. acron Says:

what kind of usage 1.5G allow you to have?

  67. aragorn Says:

my god all my bill reached rm700 these past 3 months. already turn off all notifications except 3G ( use for map, sumtimes a bit of web surfing in and YM). Maxis sure gives blood to their customers.

  68. BeSmart Says:

Smartphone is mean for sucking blood. Big shark eating small fish to get fast money on you people.

These operator are all greed stuff. Even I know the cost is expensive and disable all surfing function and using WIFI only, the next bill come with RM240 from Maxis?????

So, I had no choice but terminate my mobile service to prevent further damage incur by them. Anyway, mobile phone are not cheap either…..
